Ducati Sogno

The Ducati Sogno is an Italian-made subminiature camera produced in the late 1940s by Società Scientifica Radio Brevetti Ducati, the Bologna engineering firm that later became known for motorcycles. It uses the 18x24mm half-frame format on 35mm film and was positioned as a precision miniature camera in the immediate post-war European market.

At UK auction the Sogno is a scarce lot, and hammer prices today reflect its collector-only status: recorded sales range from about £560 to £1,600, with a median value around £600. The 2011 result at £1,600 sits well above more recent hammer prices, so a clean, complete example now typically sells for several hundred pounds rather than four figures, and condition and completeness (case, lens, original accessories) drive what it is worth.
