Schneider-Kreuznach Angulon · 90mm f/6.8

{"overview":"The Schneider-Kreuznach 90mm f\/6.8 Angulon is a compact wide-angle lens designed for large format cameras, most commonly used on 4x5 field and press bodies where its modest maximum aperture and small physical size suit folding bellows work. The Angulon line dates to the pre-war era and continued in production for decades, aimed at photographers who needed a lightweight wide rather than the faster, larger Super-Angulon.","market_narrative":"At recent UK auction, hammer prices for this lens have ranged from £45 to £119 across the six results in our sales history, with a median around £65. As of today in 2026, that makes the 90mm Angulon one of the more affordable Schneider wide-angles at saleroom level — these are wholesale results achieved before buyer's premium, so what a clean copy is worth to a retail buyer sits above these figures. The spread between the £45 bottom and the £119 top reflects condition and shutter function far more than any version premium, since the basic specification has remained consistent.","buying_guide":"Inspect the glass carefully for fungus, haze and cleaning marks, as these small elements show defects quickly against the sky and are a common reason copies sell for the lower prices seen here. Check the aperture blades for oil, confirm the leaf shutter fires cleanly at all marked speeds, and look for any signs of element separation around the cemented groups. Focus and aperture rings should move smoothly without grit, and the retaining rings on the shutter should be present and tight.","specs":"Key specifications derivable from the model designation are a 90mm focal length and a maximum aperture of f\/6.8; no further verified specification data was supplied for this page.","faq":[{"q":"What is a Schneider 90mm f\/6.8 Angulon worth at UK auction?","a":"Recent hammer prices range from £45 to £119, with a median value of roughly £65 based on six sales between 2023 and 2025."},{"q":"How much does a 90mm Angulon sell for compared to a Super-Angulon?","a":"The f\/6.8 Angulon sells for considerably less than the faster f\/8 or f\/5.6 Super-Angulon, because it is smaller, slower and covers a tighter image circle on 4x5."},{"q":"Why do prices vary so much on this lens?","a":"The price gap between the cheapest and most expensive results reflects shutter accuracy and glass condition — a sticky shutter or hazy elements can halve what a copy fetches."},{"q":"Is the 90mm Angulon a good value wide-angle for 4x5?","a":"For photographers who prioritise a small, light lens over maximum coverage or aperture, the Angulon offers genuine value, with clean examples typically changing hands under £100 at auction."}],"confidence":55,"reasoning":"Six sales records give a reasonable price picture, but empty specs and facts arrays limit confidence on technical detail."}
