Hasselblad 500C
The Hasselblad 500C is a 6x6 medium format SLR introduced in 1957 as the first leaf-shutter model in Hasselblad's V system. It uses interchangeable film backs, viewfinders and Carl Zeiss lenses with in-lens Synchro-Compur shutters, and was positioned as a professional studio and location camera. Production continued until it was superseded by the 500C/M in 1970.
At recent UK auction, hammer prices for body-only or light-kit 500C lots have ranged from about £240 to £1,900, with a median close to £760. In 2025 and early 2026, bodies fetching a working Zeiss 80mm Planar and A12 back typically sell for around £500 to £1,100 at saleroom level, while stripped or cosmetically tired examples can change hands for under £350. Condition of the leaf shutter, film back light seals and chrome finish drives most of the price spread you see today.
