A was introduced at the 1925 Leipzig Spring Fair and was one of the first commercially successful 35 mm cameras. Designed by Oskar Barnack and produced by Ernst Leitz GmbH, Wetzlar, this model helped establish Leica’s reputation for precision miniature cameras.This example, delivered on 16 May 1925 to Ernst Leitz Berlin, retains key early features such as the ratcheting film wind mechanism, pebble-shaped shutter release button, and other characteristic details of the first production batch. Only a few components—such as the viewfinder and base plate—appear to have been factory-upgraded, most likely during a service at Leitz in 1931. Very rare and original Leica Model A, with calfskin leather covering (LEANEKALB). According to Hahne, only 180 examples of the calfskin Leicas were produced in 1930. Many of these were later replaced during restoration by Leitz with regular vulcanite when the genuine leather wore off. So, the number of original calfskin Leicas still in existence today is very low. The offered example is in excellent, original condition; it comes with an ETRIN case, an angle finder and two film spools. It was delivered to Tiranty, Paris on 12.09.1930. The delivery records show the correct note 'Leanekalb' near the serial number.

The 100th Leica camera ever made. Serial production of Leica cameras began in 1925, starting with serial number 126. The offered camera, No. 225, was delivered to Ogilvy, a renowned advertising and marketing agency based in the UK, on January 29, 1925, making it likely the first Leica ever delivered to the United Kingdom. It is in excellent condition and retains many of its highly sought-after early features, such as the flat eyepiece, pebble-shaped shutter release, and the original Anastigmat lens with well-preserved optics. The only modifications made later by Leitz were an upgraded vulcanite rewind knob and a ratcheting mechanism. Extremely rare 'Luxus' Leica in exquisite, original condition. The camera features gold-plated metal components and a body adorned with a red-coloured lizard skin. It was never restored and shows only minimal patina of use. Only 95 'Luxus' Leicas were produced from 1929 to 1931; unfortunately, many were later converted, upgraded or lost - as a result, merely a handful of cameras are known to exist, and only a few maintained their original condition. An original Luxus Leica is one of the major rarities in the Leica world. The offered example, delivered in 1931 as LELUX rot (Leica Luxus with red lizard skin covering) stands out as the finest example of this rare camera we have ever seen. What makes it even more distinctive is the addition of Leitz 3x20 luxus binoculars with gold-plated parts and the matching colour of the lizard-skin covering. The delivery records for the camera from the Leica Archives indicate: Lelux rot, 18.2.31, Baumann Anton. The codeword "Lelux rot" signifies a Leica Luxus camera featuring a red lizard skin covering, including one cassette and a leather case. It is particularly noteworthy that the camera was not dispatched to a dealer or a Leitz agency, but directly to an individual, Anton Baumann. Baumann was a travelling lecturer and photographer for Leitz, as well as the author of one of the first color photo books, 'Das Farbige Leica Buch' - a prime example of which is part of this lot. Also included is a written expertise for the camera from Mr. Ottmar MIchaely.

Authentic Leica model A with a 5-element Anastigmat lens, in extremely rare original condition, with all early matching features. This lot includes the earliest version ETRIN case in 'EPI' leather style, twin cassette container. Several versions of the Leica model A were produced, which differ primarily in their respective built-in lenses. The Leica model A with a 5-element 50 mm Anastigmat f/3.5 lens represents the first version of a regular production Leica camera. It was first introduced to the public at the Leipzig Spring Fair in 1925. Only about 155 of these cameras were built and delivered in 1925 (production started with number 126, the 0-Series cameras bearing numbers 101-125). The “Anastigmat” Leica is historically significant and in high demand among collectors. Finding an example in its original condition is extremely difficult today, as many early Leica cameras were later upgraded into more recent models.

Very rare and absolutely original Leica Model A, with calfskin leather covering (LEANEKALB). According to Hahne, only 180 examples of the calfskin Leicas were produced in 1930. Many of these have been later replaced during restoration by Leitz with regular vulcanite when the genuine leather wore off. So, the number of original calfskin Leicas still in existence today is very low. The offered example is in good condition. It comes with an uncommon purse-style case and FOFER rangefinder. It was delivered to Berlin on 05.07.1930. The delivery records show the correct note 'Kalbsleder' near the serial number.

The elusive 'Luxus' Leica in 100% original and very good condition. The camera with gold plated metal parts and a lizard-skin covered body was never restored and shows the typical light patina. Only 95 'Luxus' Leicas were produced from 1929 to 1931; some were later converted or upgraded - only a handful of cameras exist in this original condition. An original Luxus Leica is one of the major rarities in the Leica world. The offered example was delivered to New York in 1930 as LESSALUX (Leica Luxus). See Lager I page 26 for an antecedent camera no.48401.

An amazing discovery from the history of Leica – a personal camera of Ernst Leitz II. Extensive research in Leica archives revealed that exactly this Leica no.165 was delivered on 24.12.1924 to Ernst Leitz Junior. We can only speculate that it may have been a Christmas gift. A closer inspection of the page from the delivery book reveals that the initial date written on the top of the page ‘1924’ has been later changed to 1925. Camera no.165 is the only one from the batch delivered in December; all the others have been delivered in June or February. This may indicate that it was the first Leica I Mod. A delivered, at the end of 1924. Factory service records show that the camera was in the workshop on three occasions and was upgraded several times to the final form we can see now. It comes with an unnumbered nickel Elmar 3.5/50mm (coated optics), unnumbered FODIS rangefinder, two film spools and an ETRIN case. The only other camera of such significance was the Leica 0-Series no.102 that, according to the Leica archives, was also given to Leitz Junior. The offered Leica is the only camera ever offered for sale that belonged to the man, who in 1923 took the bold decision to manufacture the Leica camera.

Very rare and original 'loan camera' engraved on rear of top plate 'Leih-Kamera', according to the Leitz sales book (photocopy is attached) the 'Leihk.' was delivered on September 16th, 1929 to E. L. Berlin, order no. 00208 - the early Elmax 3.5/50mm lens is an original 5-element lens (authenticated and CLA by Ottmar Michaely), camera and lens in fine, original and perfect working condition - provenance: the camera was owned by the famous photographer and film director Uldis Brauns from Latvia.

Very rare and absolutely original Leica Model A, with calfskin body-cover (LEANEKALB) with brown chequered pattern. According to Hahne, only 180 examples of the calfskin Leicas were produced in 1930/31. Many of these have been later replaced during restoration by Leitz with regular vulcanite, when the genuine leather was worn off. So, the number of original calfskin Leicas still in existence today is very low. Of the brown chequered version only three examples are known to exist, none of the others in such good condition. The calfskin Leica is mentioned in the chapter 'Luxus Leica' of the 1930 Leitz catalogue, next to the gold-plated version. It is described as a black paint camera, covered with “coloured calfskin”. In the chapter about the cases, the individual colours available are mentioned, such as “green, red, violet, dark- and light-brown, as well as brown chequered”. The offered camera no.50058 is listed in Hahne as a calfskin Leica. In the Leitz shipping records it is listed as “Leanekalb kariert (chequered)”, delivered to Boesens, Stockholm, on December 23rd,1930. In fantastic, almost like new condition. With original black painted domed Leitz cap.

this camera has one of the first serial numbers of commercially produced Leica cameras (Leica I Mod.A with Anastigmat lens from 1925 startet with number 126), as usually early Leica cameras were updated later or if this was less expensive, the camera was exchanged to a new camera and only the serial number of the original camera was engraved. In this case, the camera is a Leica I Mod.A, 8th version from 1930 with Elmar lens. Still it is the most early number of Leica's series production known to exist.
