Nikon FM
The Nikon FM is a mechanical 35mm SLR introduced in 1977, built around a metal-bladed vertical focal-plane shutter and a match-LED through-the-lens meter. It was positioned as a compact, battery-independent enthusiast body that sat below Nikon's professional F-series, using the Nikon F bayonet mount with AI-coupled metering.
At recent UK auction, hammer prices for the Nikon FM have ranged from about £25 for scruffy or faulty bodies up to £180 for the cleanest examples, with the median sale sitting close to £85. As of 2026, most tidy working bodies are worth between £80 and £120 at saleroom level, so what a given FM sells for depends heavily on cosmetic condition, meter accuracy, and whether a lens is included; these are wholesale hammer figures and exclude auction commission.
