What it is
{"overview":"The Olympus XA-2 is a 35mm compact film camera introduced in 1980 as a simplified, zone-focus version of the original XA within Olympus's pocket-sized clamshell line. Inspect the battery compartment for corrosion, confirm the shutter fires at both lit and dim meter readings, and look for haze or fungus in the fixed lens; deteriorated light seals and a failing meter are the most common faults, and while Olympus no longer services the XA range, independent film-camera technicians still repair them.","specs":"Fixed 35mm f\/3.5 D.Zuiko lens, three-zone scale focusing, programmed automatic exposure, and a clamshell cover that switches the camera on when opened.

Questions
Is the Olympus XA-2 a good value compact?
For buyers wanting a pocketable 35mm film camera, the XA-2 offers programmed exposure and a sharp fixed lens at a lower price than the rangefinder-equipped XA, which is why it remains one of the more affordable entries in the XA series.
What should I check before buying an Olympus XA-2?
Test the clamshell action, confirm the shutter and meter respond to changing light, and check the battery contacts and lens glass — these are the faults that most often reduce the value of an otherwise tidy example.
