Contax G2

The Contax G2 is a 35mm autofocus rangefinder-style film camera introduced by Kyocera under the Contax name in 1996. It uses the Contax G bayonet mount for Carl Zeiss T* lenses and was positioned at the top of the interchangeable-lens rangefinder market when new, with a titanium body and a top shutter speed of 1/6000 second.

At UK auction in 2024–2025, hammer prices for Contax G2 bodies have typically fallen in the £810–£1,200 range, with a median close to £900 — wholesale saleroom levels before buyer's premium. Condition drives value heavily in today's market: clean, fully-functioning examples sell for more, while bodies with worn titanium finish or shutter issues tend to settle at the lower end. The price a G2 sells for is also influenced by whether it is offered as a body only or paired with Zeiss G-mount lenses, which can lift the total result considerably.

Sales History

Prices shown are realised prices — auction results and completed eBay sales, never asking prices. Most saleroom figures are hammer prices, before commission; some houses publish a premium-inclusive figure, and we do not adjust for condition. Dealer and retail asking prices are typically higher. Frequently asked questions

What is a Contax G2 worth today?

Recent UK auction hammer prices for the Contax G2 body have ranged roughly £810 to £1,200, with a median around £900. Retail dealer prices are typically higher than these wholesale saleroom results.

How much does a Contax G2 sell for at auction?

In the 2024–2025 UK auction market, clean G2 bodies have been selling for about £850–£950 on average, with exceptional kits or lens-bundled lots pushing past £1,100 at the hammer.

Does condition affect the price of a Contax G2?

Yes — rangefinder accuracy, LCD legibility and cosmetic wear to the titanium finish all influence value, and examples with faults routinely sell below the median.

Is the Contax G2 still serviceable?

Kyocera factory support has ended, so independent specialists are the main option; this limited service network is one reason working examples hold their price.
