Contax G2

The Contax G2 is a 35mm autofocus rangefinder-style film camera introduced by Kyocera under the Contax name in 1996. It uses the Contax G bayonet mount for Carl Zeiss T* lenses and was positioned at the top of the interchangeable-lens rangefinder market when new, with a titanium body and a top shutter speed of 1/6000 second.

At UK auction in 2024–2025, hammer prices for Contax G2 bodies have typically fallen in the £810–£1,200 range, with a median close to £900 — wholesale saleroom levels before buyer's premium. Condition drives value heavily in today's market: clean, fully-functioning examples sell for more, while bodies with worn titanium finish or shutter issues tend to settle at the lower end. The price a G2 sells for is also influenced by whether it is offered as a body only or paired with Zeiss G-mount lenses, which can lift the total result considerably.
