Dallmeyer (J.H.) Field Camera
The Dallmeyer Field Camera is a British-made large-format wooden field camera from J.H. Dallmeyer of London, a maker active in the 19th and early 20th centuries. Models of this type were designed for landscape and studio plate photography, using sheet film or glass plates with a bellows and ground-glass focusing screen.
At UK auction, hammer prices for Dallmeyer field cameras have ranged from around £120 to £710, with a median near £130 based on the limited sales on record. The 2002 Christie's result of £705 shows that an exceptional, complete example can sell for several times what a more typical one is worth today, so condition, completeness of lens and plate holders, and bellows integrity drive value heavily in the saleroom.
