Hasselblad 1600F

The Hasselblad 1600F is a 6×6 medium format single-lens reflex introduced in 1948 as Victor Hasselblad's first civilian camera, named for its top shutter speed of 1/1600 second. It used a stainless-steel focal-plane shutter and interchangeable film magazines, establishing the modular V-system architecture that later 500-series Hasselblads inherited. When new it was positioned as a precision professional tool, and today it is collected as the starting point of the Hasselblad medium-format line.

At recent UK auction, hammer prices for the 1600F span roughly £260 to £5,000, with a median around £1,100 — a wide spread that reflects how much condition, completeness and originality drive value at saleroom level. Recent results in 2024 included £480, £650 and £2,600, so as of 2026 a tidy working example with an early Kodak Ektar or Zeiss Opton lens typically sells for several hundred to low four figures, while exceptional outfits with original boxes and matching magazines push toward the top of the range. Buyers should remember these are wholesale hammer figures and dealer retail for a fully serviced example is usually higher.
