Houghton Ensign Folding Reflex
The Ensign Folding Reflex is a folding single-lens reflex roll-film camera produced by Houghton under the Ensign brand in the early 20th century. It combined a waist-level reflex viewing system with a collapsible body, aimed at photographers who wanted SLR-style framing in a more portable form than rigid box reflexes.
Auction evidence for the Ensign Folding Reflex is thin: a single UK saleroom result from June 2025 saw an example hammer at £19, and as of 2026 that figure is the only concrete reference point for what one sells for at wholesale level. With just one data point, the model's true value range is unclear, and condition of the bellows, mirror and shutter will swing prices considerably either side of that figure.
Sales History
Prices shown are UK auction hammer results — the wholesale level achieved in the saleroom. Neither buyer’s nor seller’s commission is included. Dealer and retail asking prices are typically higher.
