Leitz 50mm f/1.4 Summilux-R

The Leitz 50mm f/1.4 Summilux-R is a fast standard prime lens made for Leica's R-series SLR system, taking the R bayonet mount used on the Leicaflex and later R-mount bodies. It was designed as the flagship normal lens for available-light and general-purpose work, sitting above the slower Summicron-R in the line-up.

At recent UK auction, hammer prices for clean examples have ranged from roughly £600 to £1,100, with a typical result around £700 for an average copy in working order. Older saleroom data from 2003-2004 shows the lens trading at £258-£553, so the value has firmed up meaningfully over the last two decades and, as of 2026, most user-grade copies sell for mid-triple-figure sums at the hammer.
