Leitz 50mm f/2 Summitar LTM

The Leitz 50mm f/2 Summitar is a standard prime in Leica screw mount (LTM/M39), produced from the late 1930s into the early 1950s. It was Leitz's normal lens for screw-mount Leica rangefinders, slotting between the earlier Summar and the later Summicron in the Wetzlar lineage. Today it remains a popular budget entry into vintage Leica glass and a working lens for users of LTM bodies and adapted mirrorless cameras.

Across recent UK auction sales, hammer prices for clean user-grade Summitars have clustered in a tight £150–£188 band, with a median around £188 from 2023 through 2025. Two outlier results from specialist Leitz sales — £1,400 in 2020 and £2,400 in 2008 — reflect exceptional collector-grade or rare-variant copies rather than what a standard example is worth in 2026. For a typical shooter today, expect the lens to sell for under £200 at saleroom level, with condition, glass clarity, and original caps driving the price within that range.
