Nikon Nikkormat FT

The Nikkormat FT is a 35mm SLR introduced by Nikon in 1965 as a more affordable alternative to the professional Nikon F, sold under the Nikomat name in the Japanese market. It uses the Nikon F bayonet mount with the pre-AI metering prong coupling and features a through-the-lens CdS exposure meter and a vertical-travel metal focal-plane shutter.

At recent UK auction, hammer prices for the Nikkormat FT have typically fallen in the £44–£120 range, with most 2022–2024 results clustering around £60 — a level that reflects its position as a budget entry into Nikon's 1960s SLR system. As of 2026, today's market value is firmly condition-led: a working body with a responsive meter and clean foam seals sells for more than a cosmetically tidy but non-metering example. Outliers above £100 tend to be boxed or exceptionally clean examples, while scruffy users with meter faults sit at the bottom of the range.
