Canon 7s

The Canon 7s is a 35mm rangefinder camera introduced in 1965 as a refinement of the Canon 7. It uses the Leica thread mount (M39), accepts Canon's own screw-mount lens line, and was positioned as Canon's top-tier rangefinder body in the mid-1960s, with a built-in CdS exposure meter visible in the top plate.

At UK auction today, body-only Canon 7s examples have sold between roughly £62 and £270 at the hammer, with recent results in 2024–2025 clustering around £125–£270 — these are wholesale saleroom prices excluding commission. Cameras offered with a desirable Canon 50mm f/0.95 or with clean matched lenses push the price sharply higher, with kitted lots fetching £1,300–£1,600 at auction over the past several years. Condition, working meter, and the presence of a premium lens are the main value drivers — a tired body with a dead meter sells for a fraction of a clean, fully functional one.
