Canon J (Seiki Kogaku)
The Canon J was an early Japanese 35mm rangefinder camera built by Seiki Kogaku, the company that later became Canon. It dates from the late 1930s and was produced in very small numbers, placing it among the earliest Canon-lineage cameras to reach collectors today.
Auction data for the Canon J is extremely thin: a single UK saleroom hammer result of £15,000 in June 2023 is the only reference point, so any current value or price estimate in 2026 must be treated as indicative rather than a market median. Because this is a wholesale auction-hammer figure rather than a retail asking price, what a Canon J sells for at dealer level can sit materially higher, and condition, completeness and provenance dominate what each example is worth.
Sales History
Prices shown are UK auction hammer results — the wholesale level achieved in the saleroom. Neither buyer’s nor seller’s commission is included. Dealer and retail asking prices are typically higher.
