Leitz M4-P
The Leitz M4-P is a 35mm mechanical rangefinder camera introduced in 1981 and produced in Midland, Ontario, Canada. It was positioned as a working photographer's body: no built-in light meter, but with six pairs of framelines covering 28, 35, 50, 75, 90 and 135mm — the first M-series rangefinder to include a 28mm frameline.
At recent UK auction, hammer prices for the M4-P have ranged from roughly £900 to £1,900, with clean working examples in 2024–2025 clustering around a £1,400 median. As of today in 2026, condition and cosmetics drive most of the spread: a tidy, functioning body sells for noticeably more than a brassed or service-needing one, and earlier saleroom results from the 2010s (£650–£1,200) show how much the model's value has firmed up. Older Christie's results from 1998–2003 sat in the £450–£1,150 band, so today's figures reflect a clear upward trend in what the M4-P is worth in the auction market.
