Leitz R9

The Leitz (Leica) R9 is a 35mm single-lens reflex camera introduced in 2002 and the final model in Leica's R-series SLR line. It uses the Leica R bayonet mount and was offered in black and anthracite finishes, positioned at the top of Leica's reflex range and compatible with the separately-sold Digital Module R back.

At recent UK auction, hammer prices for the R9 body have ranged from around £380 to £850, with a median near £780. The two most recent sales in 2024 and 2025 both cleared £800 at saleroom level, suggesting values have firmed up today compared with the weaker £380–£525 results seen in early 2023. Condition, cosmetic finish and whether the body is sold with a working meter drive how much an R9 sells for in the current market.
